A Homepage Checklist for West Kelowna Businesses

Use the name customers say and the name on the sign

West Kelowna businesses live with two labels. The city name is West Kelowna. A lot of customers still say Westbank when they mean the commercial core along Highway 97, and they say "the other side of the bridge" when they are explaining a trip from Kelowna. Your homepage should not pretend those words do not exist, and it should not hide the official name either. Put West Kelowna in the title and the first screen. If people find you by saying Westbank, you can acknowledge that in a sentence about where the shop sits, without renaming the city.

Do not build the page as a Kelowna site with one word swapped. The bridge, the highway, and the neighbourhoods on this side change the trip. A visitor who thinks you are downtown Kelowna will be late or will not come. Say which side of the lake the work happens on, in ordinary language.

Describe the approach, not a postcard

Highway 97 is how many people meet West Kelowna: a string of plazas, services, and turns they can miss. If your door is on that strip, say what they will see and which side of the road matters if that prevents a U turn they resent. If you are off the highway, in Shannon Lake, Glenrosa, Rose Valley, Smith Creek, or toward Gellatly and the water, say that. Boucherie is a landmark people use. Use it only if it actually helps someone find you.

Lake photos are easy and often beside the point. A trades business, a clinic, or a shop should show the place of work. The waterfront is relevant for a beachside cafe or a marina service. It is scenery for everyone else. Borrowed views make a West Kelowna company look like it does not know its own street.

Be explicit about who you will cross the bridge for

Some West Kelowna companies serve only this side. Some cover Peachland, the highway south, or jobs in Kelowna when the schedule allows. The homepage should say which of those is true. A service area written as "the Okanagan" is too wide and attracts calls you will decline. A service area written as a few real routes is enough: West Kelowna, named neighbourhoods, and any neighbouring town you regularly enter.

Hours and response time should respect traffic. In season, bridge delays change appointment windows. You do not need a traffic report. You do need a booking note that will not embarrass you when someone is stuck between the two cities. Keep that note aligned with the Google Business Profile.

Give the first screen a job a local can finish

People on this side of the lake are often deciding between a nearby option and a trip across the bridge. Your page should make the nearby choice easy to trust. Name the service, show a real photo, and offer one next step: book, request a visit, or see the product category. Links should open pages about those offers, not a second copy of the homepage.

Proof can be a recent job in West Kelowna described without fluff, a clear explanation of the first visit, or a photo of the storefront on the highway or the side street. Skip claims about being the top choice in the valley. Neighbours can tell when a page is performing confidence it has not earned.

Check the page against the drive, not against a template

Read it as someone coming off Highway 97 with one question.

    • West Kelowna is named before any slogan, and Westbank is handled honestly if you use it.
    • A stranger can tell whether you are on the highway, toward the water, or in a named neighbourhood.
    • The page says whether you cross the bridge or stay on this side.
    • The next step and the hours match the Google profile this month.
    • Photos could not be swapped with a downtown Kelowna business by accident.

If the homepage could belong to either city, rewrite the place first. The design can wait. TWA Studio is based in Vernon and works with West Kelowna owners who are tired of generic valley pages.
